When are League Games?
The six league games are predominately scheduled for Sundays, except for one league game, which will be on a Saturday. In a few circumstances, league games may be scheduled on Saturday because of bracketing constraints, or if both clubs/teams agree to move a Sunday scheduled game. Rescheduling of league games must be within the weekend of the SoccerMaine scheduled date. For example, if a team wishes to move a Sunday league game to a Saturday, it must be the preceding Saturday.
How many coaches can each team have?
Teams can have up to three rostered coaches but only a maximum of two may be in the player area during a game. All coaches must be registered with SoccerMaine and a minimum of one Soccer Maine licensed and rostered coach must coach the team and be in the player area at all times.
As a coach do I have to pay the referees?
For each of the six league games, both home and away games, coaches must pay referees for half of the fees (the head coach of the other team will pay the other half). It’s the responsibility of home coaches to coordinate the referee payments, and the all money is typically given to the head referee, who will pay the other referees. FYSA coaches will receive a check at the beginning of the season to cover these costs. Coaches DO NOT have to pay referees at the Cumberland Labor Day Tournament, Falmouth Fall Classic, or end of season Playoffs and Festivals. See the FYSA Coaching Manual for more information.
How do Friendly Games (“Friendlies”) work?
Friendly games are additional games that are separate from the regular league games during the season. While league games are typically on Sundays, Friendlies typically happen on Saturdays or in lieu of practice. Coaches or team managers coordinate directly with other teams for Friendlies. Please confirm with Katie VerLee field space and ref availability, if hosting a friendly on home fields. Coaches are responsible for paying half of referee fees and will be reimbursed by FYSA for up to three Friendlies.
How do I get reimbursed for Friendly Games?
At the end of the season please fill out a Reimbursement Request Form listing the date, location (or description), and amount paid and send to the club Treasurer.
What is the heading protocol?
There will be no heading allowed in games for U11 and below. This protocol should be followed in all training/practices as well. Deliberate heading in these age groups will result in awarding an indirect free kick to the opposing team from the spot of the offense. If the deliberate header occurs within the goal area, the indirect free kick should be taken on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to the spot of the offense. For U12 through U14 players, heading training shall be limited to no more than 30 minutes per week. This follows Heading Recommendations from US Soccer.
