Dear FYSA Parents,
Today marks the end of another school year for kids in Falmouth. FYSA extends well deserved congratulations to all the students on the completion of another year, and we hope you all have a wonderful summer.
Before you completely check out for summer, I wanted to provide you with some important dates for your calendar as well as share with you some background on the team placement process and other valuable information.
First, please mark your calendars with the following important dates:
Week of August 12th –Many teams will be start practicing this week. Coaches will be in touch with you by early August to let you know your team’s fall practice schedule. There will be some FYSA camps/clinics in the evening of this week- stayed tuned for more information as we finalize the details on these clinics.
Sunday, August 25, 2013 – The fall travel soccer season begins August 25th with the FIRST league games.
Labor Day weekend – all FYSA teams are entered in the Cumberland Soccer Club Labor Day weekend tournament.
Columbus Day weekend (October 12-14, 2013) – the Falmouth Fall Classic – a very important fundraiser and community event for FYSA. All parents are expected to volunteer as much as possible, but a minimum of three hours per player they have in the program.
Secondly, FYSA will post the teams on our website www.falmouthsoccer.com for the fall travel season on the last day of school. We have over 340 players that we placed on 29 teams this spring and we take this process very seriously with a great deal of discussion, care and review. Like anything, no process is perfect and if you have concerns please contact me directly and we can discuss the process we have in place.
All of you should have ordered the three mandatory uniforms items (jersey/top, shorts and socks) through Atlantic Sportswear by now. You may also have ordered extra optional items as well. If you are planning to pass down an older sibling’s uniform and number to a younger sibling entering FYSA, please contact Scott Spence to make sure that your “family number” is not already taken. Otherwise your younger child will be assigned a random number. Per Soccer Maine rules, no two players may have the same number on their uniforms (no duplicate numbers/team or age group). If you have any questions or concerns re: uniforms, please contact Scott Spence directly at email@example.com.
Finally, we are starting a new program to recycle old uniforms once your children age out of FYSA travel soccer. If you are doing some spring cleaning and come across gently used FYSA uniform tops and shorts that are now too small for your children, please consider donating them to FYSA. Every fall we offer full and partial scholarships to several families in need, thus giving their child an opportunity to play soccer at at reduced cost. Your child’s old uniform will be recycled and given to a new young FYSA player. Contact our registrar, Louise Hester at firstname.lastname@example.org to donate any old uniforms.
Have a wonderful summer and we will see you in August! Be sure to visit our website, www.falmouthsoccer.com, as it is continually updated throughout the summer and soccer seasons.
John Scribner, FYSA President
